Beware of Matta Fair Scam | Cheap Vacation Packages

The MATTA FAIR March 2011 is just around the corner and I’m sure you have plan and save money for your dream travel holiday.

Please be aware that you can get scam even buying a Travel Package at Matta Fair. What happen is the victim get  cheated when vacation packages they paid for did not materialise.

Last month, there are 38 victims had taken a travel agent to the Consumer Claims Tribunal for cheating them of their money. All of them bought  the packages at a Matta travel fair last September but later found out that the agent did not have a licence to sell outbound (overseas) packages. The total lost is at least RM450,000 in total.

Please note that not all travel agent  can sell inbound tours, outbound tours and ticketing as each required separate licences.

I hope the upcoming Matta Fair have a mandatory system for operators to display their licences in prominent places during the travel exhibitions. This is to let the visitors to be aware of what the company is allowed to sell.

I’m feel very sorry for the victims as they have saved up for a long time to go on their dream holiday and when this scam happens, it is very heartbreaking.

It’s very important to keep all the the agreements that you have signed with the travel agent to avoid any dispute later.

Up to September 2010, a total of five tour operators had their licence revoked last year out of the 2,867 registered with the Tourism Ministry

The effected tour operators are Andalas Travel Sdn Bhd, HZR Holidays Sdn Bhd, Qaisar Travel Sdn Bhd, Peak Link Travel Sdn Bhd and Permata El Nor Holidays Sdn Bhd. This news was announce by Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen, Tourism Minister after she officiating at the opening of the new building of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta), here, Tuesday.
