    This is True…..100% agree

  3. Too old to qualify for credit card

MY husband and I maintain one credit card, with me being the principal holder and he the supplementary cardholder.

Recently, when he wanted to accept an offer for a credit card application, the salesperson said his application could not be accepted because Bank Negara has an age limit of below 70 years for applicants.

What is the rationale for this ruling?

Because we are both over 70 years, if I were to go first, he would not have any credit card facility. So it makes sense that he apply for his own card.

I hope Bank Negara will give some consideration to amending this ruling. It penalises us senior citizens unnecessarily.

  4. Banks have own criteria for credit card approval

With reference to the Letter “Too old to qualify for credit card” (The Star, April 5), we would like to clarify that there is no maximum age limit specified in the Credit Card Guideline issued by Bank Negara.

The guideline specifies the minimum age requirement of at least 21 years old. The decision to approve the credit card application is based on the credit evaluation process and internal credit policies of the credit card issuers.

Banking institutions will assess whether the applicant meets the criteria for considering an application.

The criteria would include assessment on the applicant’s financial capability, credit history, current financial conduct and source of income for repayment.
