  6. icapital.biz Expects Assets To Double In Five Years

By Choong En Han & Shuhada Mansor

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (Bernama) — icapital.biz Bhd expects to double its assets in the next four to five years.

“If we don’t deviate from value investing and invest in attractively priced stocks, the returns in the next four to five years would be pretty attractive,” Managing Director Tan Teng Boo told Bernama on Saturday at the company’s inaugural Investor Day.

“Previously when we first did our Initial Public Offering in 2005, we hoped to double our assets in four to five years, and we have surpassed our target,” he said.

He added that the company had achieved a growth of more than 130 per cent since the company was listed.

Speaking about the Investor Day, he said the event was organised to educate individuals on investing.

“For individual investors, it would usually be difficult for them to get the right information.

“Today, we have leaders of companies that we invest in to provide talks to the public, so they can understand about the business and invest properly,” he said.

He added that if individuals invest properly, there is no reason why they could not obtain profits.

The event features various exhibition booths, investing talks and investor presentations from the companies that the company has invested in.

    icapital.biz is Malaysia’s only listed closed-end fund.

For the last financial year ended May 31, the company recorded a pre-tax profit of RM37.644 million, an increase from RM7.489 million in the previous corresponding year while revenue increased to RM42.223 million from RM11.414 million.

  7. Tan: Implement NEM soon to draw foreign funds
    By LEE KIAN SEONG

KUALA LUMPUR: The New Economic Model (NEM) has to be implemented quickly and executed in the right way so that the country can attract more foreign funds into the country, said Capital Dynamics Group chief executive officer and managing director Tan Teng Boo.

He said stock markets in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and India were driven basically by foreign funds, and that Malaysia could benefit in the same way if the right economic policies were in place.

“There is no reason why our stock market can’t be higher than what it is now as our nation has so much potential, talents and good companies,” he said at a press briefing yesterday on Investor Day and icapital.biz Bhd’s AGM.

Both events were held last Saturday.

Tan cited Indonesia as an emerging market with the right economic policies.

He noted that its capital markets were on the rise and that its percentage gain in real gross domestic product (GDP) per capita from 1970 to 2009 was higher than Malaysia’s.

He also pointed out that Singapore’s real GDP per capita in 1968 was around double that of Malaysia’s but more than four times higher today.

Tan said Malaysia faced serious economic structural problems in the areas of productivity, efficiency and competitiveness.

“The future rests in the hands of each Malaysian.

“After 16 long years of being very worried about Malaysia’s economic policies, the NEM is a breath of fresh air and this is a policy that holds much hope.

“It all lies in the support of ordinary Malaysian to make this a success,” he said.

On the US economy, he said their companies were spending on capital investment but not hiring.

The lack of hiring has resulted in improved productivity levels, according to Tan.

Organised by Capital Dynamics and icapital.biz, Investor Day had attracted close to 3,000 investors.

The event included investor presentations from companies that icapital.biz has invested in, such as Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd, Parkson Holdings Bhd and Padini Holdings Bhd.
