I Just Cancelled My CitiBank Credit Card

My CitiBank Credit Card is due for RM50 service tax on June 2010 and have no choice but cancel it.

The cancellation can be done over the phone.

Thanks to CitiBank for sending reminder on the service tax.

I think  CitiBank is the first bank that implement this reminder  service.  Truly  a good customer service.

Other banks should emulate this example.

Some commented that you must keep at least on foreign credit cards like from CitiBank , HSBC, Standard Chartered Bank etc, especially if you intend to travel oversea.

I found out this is no valid as some local bank also got their own travel credit cards like CIMB WORLD MasterCard, CIMB Enrich WORLD MasterCard  etc which is accepted internationally.

  1. Direct Access (i.e., CIMB) printed on the monthly statements a sentence to tell the card holder when will the service tax be charged.

  2. True!

  3. Citibank banking on new platform

KUALA LUMPUR: Citibank Bhd expects its mobile banking customers to grow by more than 100% within two years with the launch of its latest banking platform, Citibank Mobile.

Head of Consumer e-Business Roy Heong said the bank had more than 120,000 mobile banking customers at present. He explained that the new platform allowed customers who had Internet access on their mobile phones to carry out transactional activities, including fund transfers and bill payment.

“Citibank Mobile is a comprehensive mobile banking solution which provides customers with transactional banking services and real information on their mobile phones,” he said at the launch of the Citibank Mobile yesterday.

Heong said Citibank Mobile was a customised version of Citibank Online that had been optimised for standard mobile devices, including the iPhone.

“Customers can use the same Citibank Online login access with their username and password to manage their bank, card and investment accounts through their mobile phone,” he said.

  4. I am not happy with Citibank. They did not send a reminder re the service tax but maybe due to it being a Citibank-Shell card. Also, when I called in to cancel after I received the statement, I was told I had to pay the service tax also since I used the card after the service tax was charged. It seems one of the rules for you not to be charged the RM50 tax is if you DO NOT use your credit card after you have been charged. Unfortunately, you do not get your statement before they charge you so you are not aware that you MUST NOT use it at all in order not to be charged.
