EON Bank Credit Card Offers | RM50 Service Tax for Card Holders

I have Cancel my EON Bank Credit Cards last month and today got an “Attractive” EON Bank Credit Card offer.

The Bank is offering me FREE Two Years annual membership fee for me to continue using the credit card with No Term and Conditions and FREE FOR LIFE** membership fee for the subsequent years.

**All you have to do is USE your Platinum Credit Card 36 times or 24 times on your Gold Credit Card before the next card renewal date

There is Nothing Special about this “Attractive” EON Bank Credit Card offer as other Credit Cards like Direct Access and CIMB Credit Card, already offer free-for-life credit card without any Term and Conditions!

Direct Access and CIMB Credit Card also Do NOT required you to spend any minimum transaction.

Maybe the Marketing Department of EON Bank could do a Market Research first before sending out any Offer in order to Increase the High Acceptance rate.

When I called up the EON Bank about the RM50 service tax on each principal credit card on this “Attractive” offer, sadly sad there is no Waiver on the RM50 service tax. Therefore, I  politely decline the “Attractive” offer!

I am not sure what are the result of Credit Cards Cancellation Rate of all Credit Cards Companies due to the implication of RM50 service tax.

Cancellation of the Credit Cards can be easily done over the phone. No hassle at all.

  1. EON Bank Aims For 700,000 Credit Cardholders This Year

EON Bank Bhd aims to secure a total of 700,000 credit cardholders this year following the economic recovery, its group chief executive officer Michael Lor said on Monday.

Last year, the group had a total of 620,000 credit cardholders, of which 110,000 were new cardholders, despite a drop of 25,000 cardholders.

“This year we hope for 700,000 cardholders, with our latest Malaysian Retailer-Chain Association (MRCA)-EON Bank Credit Card itself garnering 50,000 cardholders,” Lor told reporters after the card launch here.

“We also hope to see growth of 15 per cent in receivables as the economy improves as well as better product offerings,” he said.

The new credit card also serves as a loyalty card, allowing customers to collect up to 7.5 per cent in cash points for purchases made at more than 600 MRCA members’ outlets nationwide.

Lor also said that the bank’s credit card business had been affected by the government’s ruling of imposing RM50 service tax for each cardholder.

“However, it was not as bad as we thought as we only saw a slight drop in the number of cards,” he said.

According to him, EON Bank is partnering with strong partners such as MRCA which meant that it is doing business in a smart way that still offers benefits to customers.

Earlier at the launch, Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said an increase in domestic demand in developed countries was co-related to accessible financial facilities like credit cards.

Hopefully, he said, usage of the MRCA-EON Bank credit card will increase the demand for local goods in line with the campaign to buy Malaysian products.

His speech was read by the ministry’s Deputy Secretary General (Domestic Trade), Daud Tahir.
